Top-quality instruction

Each class is structured to maximize the benefits of both group and individual instruction.

Becky Ashenden, our founder and principal instructor, has been teaching weaving since 1993 after 13 years as a production weaver. Becky emphasizes Swedish techniques because of her extensive study in Sweden throughout the years. Swedes have a long and valued history of weaving; the streamlined approach and the flexibility of the looms and patterns are hard to match. Each student leaves Vävstuga with fresh inspiration and greater ability.

Special guest teachers round out our offerings with classes like Fingerweaving & Sprang with Carol Jones, Basket Weaving with Wendy Jensen, Birch Bark Weaving with Elaine Moe, and Scandinavian Knitting with Beth Brown-Reinsel.

...even from Sweden! We are especially excited about bringing special guests Monica Hallén and Anna Östlund all the way from Sweden in 2020. Join us for Open Rep with Rags and Rag Rug Techniques with Monica, or Plentiful Rosepath Pillows with Anna.

Talented studio assistants Tonya Jones and Bettie Zakon-Anderson are happy to work with students in all of our classes. Sara Jeanne Burke joins us as an assistant in Monica Hallén's rag rug classes, and as co-teacher with Becky for Fabric & Bag Fest.
