October 2015

We have been enjoying a beautiful and busy Fall at Vävstuga! Our freshly restocked yarn shelves are overflowing with colors, so this is a great time to put in your order for your fall/winter weaving projects. Be sure to check out our yarn playground on each individual yarn page to make your color selection more fun!

We have two new books in our bookstore

Amandas Mönster – nya vävar (Amanda’s patterns – new weaves), by Elsy Bråtsjö Nilsson et al. book-nilsamandaA companion book, or sequel, to Räknade Trådar (which is also back in stock), this title comes from the same group of nine dedicated people who started working together in 2000 to analyze and meticulously document older Dalsland weavings from the 1700s to 1940s.       Bärbart (Wearable), by Mariana Eriksson & Kerstin Lovallius book-erikbarbarThis little book presents a wide array of small weaving projects that can be worn. The creative examples include armbands, necklaces, bracelets, rings, innovative little bags, mittens, slippers, and belts, as well as jacket and dress fabric.

Fun Times in Fall Classes

Our Swedish Classics classes produced some breathtaking rosepath and monks belt patterns in addition to twills, satin and linens. IMG_7247 IMG_7232

Guest teachers at Vävstuga

Vävstuga has also been basking in delight with three guest teachers this fall. Take a look at some of the beautiful projects Lisa Hill’s Nordic Deflection class accomplished! This class will return to our schedule in 2017. IMG_7063-001 IMG_7081-001 IMG_7129-001

Beth Brown-Reinsel’s Swedish & Latvian Knitting class was well attended and very much enjoyed. The students asked us to bring her back to Vävstuga, which we certainly hope to do, so stay tuned!           Laverne Waddington’s Backstrap Weaving class focused on Andean pebble weave. The rewards of these magical structures loomed large for our participants. Becky even got to participate! IMG_7262 IMG_7267 IMG_7290
