New books

We’ve added two gems from our recent trip to Sweden. These two beautiful new books from Estonia were presented to us at the Vävmässan last month, and their authors were such delightful people! I’m sure you will enjoy their books as much as we enjoyed meeting them. We’ve also added a booklet of weaving inspirations from Bockens yarns. Click through for book-preview videos of all three titles.

Class openings

We have a few slots open for the following classes:
  • Oct 31 – Nov 4, Mönster Parti — one spot left Come and demystify the profile draft and profile tie-up while weaving these beautiful and diverse structures.
  • Nov 7–14 and Nov 14–18, Drawloom Treasures — several openings We have 4 drawlooms set up and ready to weave amazing holiday gifts for yourself or for others. (Prerequisite: Drawloom ABC or Drawloom Basics.)

Wool news: an ending and a new beginning

The rumors are true: Borgs Weaving yarns has closed after having supplied the world with beautiful Swedish wools and other yarns since the 1700s, a tragedy indeed. The good news is that we will soon be offering a new line of wools from Garnhuset, starting with a 6/2 blanket wool similar to the “Tuna” wool that we have offered in the past. The first boxes of blanket yarn are on their way; we hope to have the colors up in December, fingers crossed.

Sweden trip

Becky, Tonya, and Eva have recently returned from two amazing weeks in Sweden, successfully completing a whirlwind tour visiting many of our suppliers: the Glimåkra loom and reed factory, AK Snickeri who make our Lilla looms, Holma Helsinglands who produce our fine Bockens yarns, our new wool yarn supplier Garnhuset, and Karin Myrehed who makes our beautiful drawloom attachments. Our first night we stayed with Gunvor Johansson, whose book Heirlooms of Skåne has enchanted many of you, and is probably yet to be discovered by many more of you. She gave us an amazing tour of her woven textiles at the Cathedral in Lund, as well as the local handcrafts store. We also met the authors of many other books we sell. The whole trip was inspiring and invigorating. We’ve posted a photo and video album of some of our trip highlights. Here are a few teasers:
