Experience the versatility of our own band loom with innovative design features
Instructors: Becky Ashenden & Eva Gaultney
Dates offered 2023: Aug 28 – Sep 1 (concurrent with Bandfest)
Explore the versatility of this old style loom with our design innovations to make a variety of stunning plain weave and patterned bands. Learn two beaming methods and five weaving techniques.
This band loom (see it in action!) uses an inkle style shedding system. This means that every other warp end is in a fixed position, and alternate warp can move either above or below the stationary ends. The ability to spread the warp threads facilitates pick-up patterns. The class will begin with plain weave on Monday, allowing students the time to gain comfort manipulating the shed with their hands. Each student will dress their loom throughout the week with several short warps to get plenty of practice with dressing the loom and with simple several different techniques and structures.
