Linen runners & squares
Experience the elegance of a fine linen runner materializing before your eyes while your hands are at work. Linen does not need to be difficult in order to be satisfying. Explore our specific guidelines below in order to make the right choice for your weaving level. Our plentiful array of projects can be adapted to the yarn of your choice, in order to make them more accessible, or more challenging. See the bottom of the page for guidelines to choosing your linen warp.

Guidelines to choosing your linen warp
Easier: 2-ply warps
Returning Vävstuga Basics students who feel intimidated by linen would do well to choose a 16/2 linen warp, as it will already feel familiar. If you are ready to take things a step further, using a finer plied linen warp is a good second step.
More challenging: single-ply warps
If you have had considerable experience with plied linen warps and want to expand your skills, we welcome you to explore the possibilities of our single-ply linens.
Warp length
These default warp lengths are what we will prepare for you unless you specify something different.
yarn | length |
---|---|
16/2 linen, up to 400 ends | 6 meter warp |
16/2 linen, over 400 ends | 3 meter warp |
20/2, 28/2, or 35/2 linen | 3 meter warp |
8/1 or 6/1 tow linen, up to 400 ends | 6 meter warp |
8/1 or 6/1 tow linen, over 400 ends | 3 meter warp |
12/1, 16/1, 20/1, or 28/1 linen | 3 meter warp |
Taking your remainder warp home (maybe)
If you have plied linen warp left over at the end of your session, we can chain it off to send it home with you. We will probably not attempt to chain off a single-ply linen warp for you to take home, as it would wear out the threads and compromise your continued weaving experience.
Time left over in your session?
Use one of our warp mills and select from our vast array of colors to wind a warp you’ll enjoy at home.
