Vävstuga is excited to offer a one-day basket weaving workshop with Wendy Jensen, award-winning basket maker. You’ll learn the techniques to make Wendy’s “Williamsburg Handbasket” in our wonderful Barn Studio.
Williamsburg Handbasket
Level: open
This project is appropriate for all levels of weaver, from beginner to more experienced.
A perfect utilitarian basket. Students will learn how to weave a basket base around a sturdy, preformed wooden handle. The basket walls are woven with a chase weave with an emphasis on shaping. Rim fitting, scarfing and lashing will also be taught. If time allows, students can decorate the handle in a variety of weaves.
Basket dimensions: 13″ high × 12″ deep

- All equipment, supplies, and pattern will be supplied.

- Notebook and pencil if you wish to take notes.
Wendy Jensen is an award-winning professional basket maker living in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. She exhibits her work at juried craft shows and galleries nationally, and has taught basket making at many conferences, craft schools, museums and private facilities as well as her own studio for over 25 years. Her work was selected for publication in Lark Books’ 500 Baskets. Although a majority of her work is made with rattan/reed, she has also been cultivating and weaving with basket willow for over 20 years.
