We are thrilled to invite you to join us in Sweden this summer at Becky’s alma mater Sätergläntan, as the school celebrates its 100th birthday. Becky has arranged this amazing 7-day class with Stefan Moberg especially for Vävstuga participants, so you won’t find it among the regular Sätergläntan offerings.
About the course
Dalldräll, the Swedish word for overshot, evokes thoughts of Dalarna, the province known as the heart and soul of Swedish folk tradition. Located in the center of Sweden, Dalarna is famously home to Midsummer celebrations, red-painted cottages, gorgeous folk costumes, and folk music. It also has a strong connection to weaving patterns with floats on a tabby background: daldräll. Historically, daldräll has been used for home textiles such as tablecloths, curtains, and bedspreads, but it is also commonly found in folk costumes from Dalarna.
During this course we will learn more about this technique and the traditional Swedish way of weaving it. Everyone will move around the classroom during the week to explore different patterns and materials on different looms. We will also study old examples of daldräll in Sätergläntan’s large collection of historical textiles.

About the Institute
Sätergläntan, The Institute of Crafts, is a folk school located in Insjön in Dalarna, Sweden. Sätergläntan offers full-time education in weaving, sewing, wood crafts, and blacksmithing, as well a wide array of popular short courses. Founded in 1922 as a combined weaving school, boarding house, and handicraft shop, today Sätergläntan belongs mainly to Hemslöjden, the Swedish National Confederation of Handicraft Associations.
About Stefan
Stefan Moberg is a professional hand weaver and spinner, with deep roots in the Swedish textile industry and traditions. Having trained with traditional weavers in Sweden and at the Kawashima Textile School in Japan, Stefan focuses on working with wool in different ways. He has developed a tweed yarn and fabric made from the unique types of wool found only in Scandinavia. Other special interests in weaving include damask and Japanese kasuri (ikat).
As a teacher and designer Stefan is in high demand in both Sweden and internationally. His work has appeared in VÄV magazine, Handwoven, and The Wheel.
Stefan also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in classical music performance, having trained as a cellist in both Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Course fee: $2400
Lodging: Included. The course fee includes on-site lodging in a double room. Add $200 for a single room.
Food: Included. The course fee includes seven lunches and six dinners. On-site lodging includes breakfast and fika (afternoon tea/snack) every day.
Transportation: Flights/transportation are NOT included in the course fee. You are responsible for your own flights to Sweden and transportation arrangements to the school (though we can advise about taking the train from the airport).

Lodging schedule: The room is available from 4 pm the day before the class, and checkout is the last day of the class.
