Palmgren Party

Join our exciting book project

Experience eight projects from this 1923 vintage Swedish weaving book, and be part of our team.

Instructors: Becky Ashenden & Eva Gaultney

Dates offered 2024: Apr 29 – May 3

Sigrid Palmgren, a respected weaving teacher 100 years ago, had a weaving school in Norrköping, Sweden. She published a broadly distributed weaving book in 1923, and it was republished several times in different editions. When Becky first got ahold of one of these books nearly 20 years ago, her reaction was, “I want to weave everything in this book!” We have been working toward this goal since 2007, and are planning our own Vävstuga Press version featuring materials available today. This is a rare opportunity to be part of our process. We offer eight intriguing pieces this class week, in a tantalizing variety of techniques and materials. These gems will teach us all plenty, as have all of the other projects so far.

Projects

8 shared looms:

All of the looms will be set up ahead of time. We get to share several techniques here that don’t often make it into our other classes.

A great opportunity!

Schedule

Mon – Will offer a demo on each loom before we start to weave. A schedule will be set that offers each student equal time on each loom.

Tue – We will continue to weave and rotate to new projects according to our schedule.

Mon–Thu – Classroom sessions will present the techniques and discuss more of the book project in detail. Worksheets and lots of woven samples will contribute to an intimate understanding of these techniques.

Fri – Cutting off, hemming, finishing.
