Guidelines to choosing your linen warp

Easier: 2-ply warps

Recommended for Vävstuga Favorites sessions, where time is limited. Returning Vävstuga Basics students who feel intimidated by linen would do well to choose a 16/2 linen warp, as it would offer a good review. If you are ready to take things a step further, using a finer plied linen warp is a good second step.

More challenging: single-ply warps

If you have had considerable experience with plied linen warps and want to expand your skills, we welcome you to explore the possibilities of our single-ply linens. Our 6/1 and 8/1 total linen are a safe choice for either Vävstuga Favorites or Farmhouse Projects, but our finer and very beautiful single-ply linens should be limited to our Farmhouse Projects sessions, where the location provides more humidity and the timing is more flexible.

Warp length

These default warp lengths are what we will prepare for you unless you specify something different.

yarnlength
16/2 linen, up to 400 ends6 meter warp
16/2 linen, over 400 ends3 meter warp
20/2, 28/2, or 35/2 linen3 meter warp
8/1 or 6/1 tow linen, up to 400 ends6 meter warp
8/1 or 6/1 tow linen, over 400 ends3 meter warp
12/1, 16/2, 20/1, or 28/1 linen3 meter warp

Taking your remainder warp home (maybe)

If you have plied linen warp left over at the end of your session, we can chain it off to send it home with you. We will probably not attempt to chain off a single-ply linen warp for you to take home, as it would wear out the threads and compromise your continued weaving experience.

Time left over in your session?

Use one of our warp mills and select from our vast array of colors to wind a warp you’ll enjoy at home.
